WHY VOLUNTEER WITH US

Ethics and Transparency

There are many organizations on the web that act as the middle man between the volunteer and the NGO.  They ask for large sums of money to be paid and upon arrival volunteers often discover the money they paid did not reach the NGO at all.  If you Volunteer with TAMIHA your money will not be caught up with a middle man and would come directly to us. Once you get here you can see exactly how your money is being used to fund our programs.

Transparency and ethics are the cornerstone of our NGO so we encourage any and all questions regarding finances before, during or after your volunteering experience.

HOME VISITS
Here you can come and volunteer in our home visits activities. Under home visits volunteers and a field staff goes out and do some kind of outreach, this is mainly to study the problems in first hand basis. The importance of home visits is among other things to see and attend to the sick, orphans and elderly so as to easy their day to day burdens, and most important is to bring hope, love and new meaning to the life these people has given up living.

MOBILE CLINICS
As a volunteer in our mobile clinics projects you may be doing something similar to home visits but the main focus is in giving health care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS.

The mobile clinics are very important because some people does not want to come to the center for any of the reason including stigma and been too sick to attend the regular clinics.

 PEER GROUP EDUCATION
We have clubs in secondary schools, primary schools and colleges, we would like to invite volunteers who can come and help to train these peer groups about the whole HIV/AIDS, including sensitizing and counseling.

Under the education also we would like to have volunteers who could teach any skills from music lessons to languages especially English to our clubs and orphanage.

  ORPHANAGE  (DAY CARE CENTER)

We invite volunteers to come and help us at the day care center, the orphanage day care is taking care of about 30 orphans a day, we would like people who can help to teach, provide nutritional food and play with the children in a day to day basis. Some of the children are already HIV positive and we need to take great care of them in terms of medication and nutrition.

ENTEPRENUERSHIP AND MICRO ECONOMY EDUCATION

We have groups of widows who now runs their own group small businesses, but it must be noted that entrepreneur skills are a continuous education kind of skills and we would appreciate it very much if we could get volunteers who can come and train these widows, HIV victims and other marginalized small entrepreneurs who are struggling with their small ventures.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND MANAGEMENT
In advocating millennium goals we take seriously the whole issue of environmental degradation. In our approach we have established environmental clubs in all the surrounding schools nearer our offices. The main aim is ‘to strike the iron while hot’, that we train the youth how to be conscious about the whole issue of environment, sentising and advocating all acceptable measures of preserving and valuing our environment.

The clubs participate in tree planting contests and acceptable methods of farming and gardening including the wide spread use of Bio Intensive Techniques.

We would like volunteers to participate in teaching and sensitizing the whole issue to the clubs this way the word spreads faster.
